Region

Piemont

The North-Western Italian Piedmont (“at the feet of the mountains”) is located in the Southern foothills of the Alps. The climatic conditions are challenging: Except for the area around Pianura padana, the region here is significantly cooler than the rest of Italy. Short, dry summers give way to foggy autumns and very cold winters. This is a challenge that Piedmont’s winegrowers have mastered successfully: Alongside Tuscany, Piedmont produces most of Italy’s premium wines, with unmistakeably full-bodied and many-faceted aromas resulting from these particular climatic conditions. The most common vine type is the red Barbera vine, followed by the Dolcetto and Nebbiolo, from which the world-renowned Barolo is pressed. The vines thrive at altitudes of 150 to 400 m a.s.l. on various soils – from clayish for a multi-layer bouquet to calcareous sandy soils that facilitate a strong structure in the wine.

Producer/Brand

Vegliamonte

The Parusso family of Piedmontese winegrowers is passionately dedicated to advancing viticulture in the Alba region – with a wine that bears the name of the town. Production of Vegliamonte Alba DOC revives time-honoured traditions, at the same time combining them with innovative new techniques. The wine is composed of at least 85% Nebbiolo and 15% Barbera – a traditional blend that balances the Nebbiolo character with that of Barbera: it is called “Taglio all’albese”. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand in small baskets and processed using modern methods to produce an excellent, contemporary wine.
