Region

Kalifornien

The most important viticultural regions in the USA – Napa Valley and Sonoma – are located in the South-Western state of California. In the 1970s, California established its reputation as a worldwide leader in quality winegrowing thanks to European quality grapes. The styles of its Cabernet-Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines are particularly unique. The climate is distinguished by its proximity to the cool Pacific and the hot Central Valley. In summer, the days are hot and dry, while the foggy nights are relatively cool and humid, which helps the grapes to ripen in a way that almost no other viticultural environment could bring about. Combined with different soil types – from chalk and limestone to loess and clay – various terroirs yield the finest wines.
