Region

Valencia

Archaeological finds confirm that vines were cultivated in the area of Valencia even in prehistoric times. Spain’s largest seaport lends the autonomous province and one of the DO-areas in the Levante its name. In the DO Valencia, mainly white vines are cultivated on brown, calcareous soils, predominantly the late-blooming Merseguera grape. Fruity, pleasant red wines are pressed from ripe Monastrell and Garnacha. The most diverse landscapes in the Valencia region are reflected by the prevalent climatic conditions: a humid-hot Mediterranean climate in the vicinity of the coastline, with drier and less hot conditions prevailing in the mountainous regions further inland.

Producer/Brand

Bodegas Volver

During a time when the world only thought of Rioja wines in terms of a Spanish wine phenomenon, the visionaries Jorge Ordoñez and Rafael Cañizares looked into cultivating old, abandoned vineyards in previously unknown cultivation areas, in order to revive local grape varieties and to reposition Spanish quality wines in 2004. Traditional viticulture is the quality seal of Bodegas Volver S.L. The establishment currently produces its wines from the grapes of 30 to 90 year old vineyards within the protected cultivation areas of DO Jumilla, DO Castilla la Mancha and DO Alicante.
