Produttori del Barbaresco
The vineyards of the Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative encompass several top-class sites including Asili, Rabaja and Ovello. This producer has long been a source of high-quality Nebbiolo, a grape that faithfully reflects the region’s terroir.
In 1958, the priest of the village of Barbaresco persuaded 19 winegrowing families to join together into a cooperative, the Produttori del Barbaresco. Today, the Produttori del Barbaresco has 51 members and is one of Europe’s best wine cooperatives.
Committed to quality
The forerunner of this collective of growers, the Cantine Sociali di Barbaresco, pioneered the first-ever wines to be labelled as Barbaresco. Since then, the cooperative’s stated aim has been to produce exceptional Nebbiolo. The Produttori del Barbaresco now controls over 100 hectares of vineyard situated 200 to 400 metres above sea level. Barbaresco’s best crus account for much of this surface area. They include Asili, Rabaja, Ovello, Rio Sordo and Montestefano. The cooperative produces a Barbaresco DOCG, a blend of Nebbiolo fruit harvested from different vineyards, as well as a Nebbiolo Langhe suited for earlier consumption. It also produces its sought-after Riservas in good years, sourced from the village’s famous single vineyards.
Terroir and tradition
Managing director Aldo Vacca and winemaker Gianni Testa are in charge of operations at the cooperative. Imbued with class, breed and elegance, their wonderfully complex wines consistently reflect the character of the region, the soils and the people who farm there. What’s more, they offer notable value for money.

Over 100 grape varieties are permitted for winegrowing in Piedmont. Red grapes Nebbiolo and Barbera are responsible for many of the best wines.
