Weinbau Schloss Reichenau

Weinbau Schloss Reichenau Gian-Battista and Johann-Baptista von Tscharner, Weinbau Schloss Reichenau

The people who run the Schloss Reichenau winery are passionate about wine. Gian-Battista von Tscharner and son Johann-Baptista von Tscharner focus on growing top-quality wine from their vineyards situated in and around Maienfeld, Jenins, Chur and Felsberg.

Schloss Reichenau, a property steeped in history and tradition, is situated at the point where Posterior Rhine and the Anterior Rhine join to form the mighty River Rhine. It has been in the hands of the von Tscharner family, on and off, for seven generations. The estate vineyards encompass a total of six hectares, situated at elevations of approximately 600 metres and spread around the municipalities of Jenins, Chur, Felsberg and Maienfeld. They comprise 12 individual sites with 11 different grape varieties, of which Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir) accounts for 60%.

Family winery

Schloss Reichenau is currently in the possession of Gian-Battista von Tscharner, a remarkable personality who makes equally remarkable wines that are powerful and firm on the one hand and silky, precise and seductive on the other. In 2016, Gian-Battista handed over the running of the estate to son Johann-Baptista, who has subtly tweaked the house style in favour of greater elegance and freshness without forfeiting the singular character for which Schloss Reichenau wines are known.

A tradition of quality wine

Since establishing the winery in 1976, the von Tscharners have left no stone unturned in their pursuit of quality. They are committed to giving their wines extended ageing before release.

“Quality is the cornerstone of everything we do. The wines that we produce from our vineyards in Maienfeld, Jenins, Chur, Felsberg and Domat Ems are the fruit of our own labour. We are committed to giving our wines the time they need, only releasing them when they are ready.”
