Weingut Bercher

Weingut Bercher Arne and Martin Bercher, Weingut Bercher

The Bercher family have been running their wine estate for ten generations. The soils in their famous Kaiserstuhl vineyards are mainly of volcanic origin, producing elegant, structured wines that are the perfect match for food.

Franz Michael Bercher descended from a family whose history can be traced back to 1457. The Berchers came to the Kaiserstuhl region from Switzerland following the Thirty Years War. Franz Michael the built the estate’s manor house with its vaulted cellar in 1756. This is where the Bercher family continue to make their wines – over 250 years later.

Family estate on the Kaiserstuhl

Brothers Arne and Martin Bercher now guide the fortunes of this 10th-generation property, where they oversee all viticultural and winemaking operations. Their wines are born of the hills of the Kaiserstuhl, reflecting the region’s unique terrain and bearing the individual stamp of the people who made them. Feuerberg Kesselberg, Feuerberg Haslen and Schlossgarten Villinger are the Bercher family’s most important vineyards. The prevailing soils are perfect for growing the Pinot varieties.

Doing everything carefully by hand

Every wine gets the time and attention it needs in the cellar to fulfil the promise of its specific terroir. The brothers continually strive to produce elegant wines that impress with their structure and length, not their power or volume. Their hands-on approach in both vineyard and cellar is based on generations of experience and expertise, progressive viticulture and winemaking, and a great deal of meticulous manual work. This results in authentic wines that are expressive of their Kaiserstuhl origins.
