Baron de Brane is the Second Wine of Château Brane-Cantenac. It is a tribute to Baron Jacques-Maxime de Brane, who owned the vineyard in the 19th century. It is made from plots on the 3rd terrace, with deep gravel derived from clayey gravel. A great vintage, the 2020 has a deep, mouth-watering nose of black fruit. Spicy and fresh on the palate, with a dense finish of floral notes, leather and spices.

Viticulture

Created in the 18th century, the reputation of this château comes from Baron Hector de Brane, nicknamed the Napoleon of the Vines, who completely restructured the property after buying it in 1833 and who enabled it to be classified in 1855. The Lurton family bought it in 1925 and Lucien Lurton managed it from 1956 to 1992. This vast 75 hectare property is located to the west of Cantenac on the Brane plateau, the highest point of the appellation.

Oenology

The layer of gravel from the quaternary period, which can be up to 10 metres deep, explains its classification. Planting density of 6500 to 8000 vines/ha with an average yield of 45 hl/ha. The malolactic fermentation is followed by an ageing on lees of about two months. After eighteen months in barrels, the wine is fined with fresh egg white in wooden vats and then prepared for bottling.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Lamb fillet in wine sauce - Beef à la ficelle - Saint-Nectaire cheese.
