Calvi blanc, Argentella, Prince Pierre Napoléon Bonaparte - 2022

The proximity of the sea and the vermentinu-based grape varieties give this Argentella cuvée its characteristic salty, marine character. It has hints of sea spray and citrus fruit, with accents of white pepper. On the palate, the wine is crisp, full-bodied and salty, carried by the great bitters that are the hallmark of the best southern whites, giving them both crispness and freshness. A superb wine. Viticulture

Granite arenas with a few veins of clay. 7 different types of granite are present in the different plots. Vines planted at a density of 4,400 vines per hectare. Double cordon Royat pruning. The vines are farmed organically and biodynamically.

Oenology

Hand-picked plot-by-plot harvest in 10 kg crates. Sorting of the harvest in the vineyard and in the cellar. The harvest is stored for 24 hours in a cool place (8°C). Part of the vinification is carried out by direct pressing of the grapes without de-stemming, and the rest by skin maceration after de-stemming. Static settling for 24 to 48 hours. Alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Aged on the lees for 7 months in 3 different containers: concrete eggs, half 600-litre muid and stainless steel vats.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Roast gamberoni - Sea bass with artichokes - Monkfish in bacon bard.

Domaine Impérial, created in 1850 by Prince Pierre Napoléon Bonaparte, nephew of Emperor Napoléon 1st, is located on the west coast of Corsica, facing the Bay of Argentella and the prestigious Scandola nature reserve. It benefits from a strong maritime influence, giving freshness and salinity to its wines. Prince Pierre Napoléon is also one of only two estates in Corsica to benefit from the 'château' designation. Out of a total of 200 hectares of land, 35 hectares of vines were planted by the Grisoli brothers after meticulous soil analysis on virgin granite soils. The estate's ampelographic base is made up of 12 endemic grape varieties. The estate is farmed organically and according to biodynamic principles. Five different cuvées are produced, and they dazzled us with their refinement and breed at the last Wine Paris trade show. We predict a future for this duo that could resemble that of the Comte Abbatucci estate...
