Viticulture

As early as the 16th century, there is mention of vine cultivation on the Château Climens estate. It was under the direction of Éloi Lacoste that Climens was classified as a Premier Grand Cru in 1855. Until 1971, when it was bought by the Lurton family, Climens had only 4 owners. In 1992, Lucien Lurton passed the property on to his children. The vineyard is in one piece and is one of the rare "monocépage" of the region.

Oenology

The terroir is composed of clayey and ferruginous sand resting on a substratum of cracked asteriated limestone. The average age of the vineyard is 35 years. The grapes are harvested manually by successive selections. Fermentation of the must takes place in barrels. Each batch is vinified individually in 35 to 45% new barrels until the final blending, approximately 18 to 24 months later.
