Cour-Cheverny blanc, Porte Dorée, Tessier - 2020

  • Provenance: Loire
  • Appellation: Cour-Cheverny
  • Domain: Tessier
  • Grape variety(ies): Romorantin
  • On-call time: 10 years
  • Alcohol degree: 14.5%
This is one of the estate's great cuvées, and is only produced when the vintage permits! The aromas are superb, with notes of quince, apple, pear and spices. The palate is splendid, full-bodied, concentrated and elegant, with lovely candied notes. The limestone terroir also contributes its minerality. An exceptional Cour-Cheverny, to be drunk over the next 10 years. RVF: 92/100

Technique

Viticulture

The oldest vines are 40 to 50 years old. Siliceous-clay soil on a limestone subsoil.

Oenology

Malolactic fermentation. Vinification and ageing for 10 months in demi-muids and barrels.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Fish, exotic dishes, charcuterie, poultry and regional goat's cheese.

It is the return of an old selection of the CAVE, with which we have renewed because the passage of generations has given birth to geniuously fleshy, sensual and perfumed Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny, which wonderfully express the originality of their terroirs and their grape varieties (pinot-gamay for the reds; romorantin, sauvignon, orbois and chardonnay for the whites). The 26 hectare estate is located on the route of the Loire castles (Chambord, Cheverny, Blois and Troussay). Philippe Tessier took over the estate in 1981, which his father Roger had created in 1961. In February 2020, his son Simon took over. The microclimate is influenced by the Loire River and the Cheverny, Chambord and Sologne forests. Three types of soil are highlighted: silico-clay, silico-clay-limestone and gravel, all on limestone bedrock. Each of these types of soil has its own particular characteristics, hence the interest in blending them in the estate's cuvées. We were delighted with these wines, which were our favourites at this winter's wine fairs in the Loire Valley!
