Since 2012, Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is the second wine of the château. A young, spirited brother, this wine has the same character: pure and straightforward. It is the result of the same rigorous and meticulous plot selection as the Grand Vin. From the historic vines, it benefits from a cellar ageing as long as its elder brother, but from a specific blend more marked in Merlot, which softens its aromatic power. Les Griffons invites a fresh and invigorating experience, full and straightforward, with plenty of energy. James Suckling: 91-92/100; Quarin: 16/20; Wine Enthusiast: 92-94/100; Jancis Robinson: 17/20; Decanter: 90/100; Vinous: 90-93/100; Neal Martin: 91-93/100; Bettane & Desseauve: 16.5/20: Guide Vert RVF: 93/100

Viticulture

The vineyard, located south of the commune of Pauillac, is 30 years old on average, planted at 9000 p/ha and produces an average of 45 hl/ha. The grapes are harvested by hand. The soil is composed of gravel from the quaternary era called Garonne gravel, the subsoil has iron concretions at great depth (alios).

Oenology

The Griffons de Pichon Baron are the latest wines to be produced by the estate. It is the result of the same rigorous and meticulous plot selection as the Grand Vin. Coming from the historic vines, it benefits from an ageing in cellar as long as its elder brother, but from a balanced blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, which softens its aromatic power.
