Loupiac, Château Dauphiné-Rondillon - 1990

Lovers of great sweet wines and old vintages, this is your Christmas present before time! The Château is literally doing you a favour by bringing out this great vintage from its collection. Although orangey in colour, with no signs of premature evolution, the wine has yellow-green highlights reminiscent of Chartreuse and indicative of a wine that is still young and in the prime of its life. The first nose is captivating, fragrant with sweet spices, fine saffron, encaustic, orange and many other elusive nuances. But it is on the palate that it surprises and overwhelms most, as the sensation of the liqueur and its components melting and integrating is magical. The finesse is miraculous, the complexity of flavours ingenious, and the whole thing awakens in the mind of the taster a desire to cook and ideas for dishes! Peking duck, scallops with lemon butter, an old Stilton or, better still, a Castelmagno with good marbling and sufficient fat. This wine is a delight, a miracle.

Mainly clay-limestone terroir, with gravel on top. Surface area of 9 hectares. Vines 45 years old. The grapes are harvested by successive selections (up to 5 selections) by hand in order to select only those bunches affected by Botrytis cinerea.

Suggestions for accompaniment

To be drunk on its own, with blue cheese (Roquefort, Stilton), or with an orange and chocolate tart.

Domain
Château Dauphiné-Rondillon was created in 1798 by Mr Alfred Debat. From the beginning, he decided to devote himself exclusively to the production of great sweet white wines. His descendant, Basile Debat, won a gold medal for a Loupiac 1900 at the Concours Général Agricole in 1901. Encouraged by this recognition of quality, Jean Darriet decided in 1920 to bottle his wine. The Château's label, created that year, has remained unchanged ever since. Overlooking the Garonne River, the Château is situated on the most beautiful terroirs of Loupiac and rises to 103 metres. From the property, it is easy to see some of the Grands Crus of Sauternes: Rayne-Vigneau, Yquem, Rieussec, Lafaurie-Peyraguey. This exceptional terroir is made up of a large gravelly ridge on the surface, followed by a clay-gravel soil, before reaching the limestone bedrock. The combination of this terroir, a south/south-west exposure, and a privileged geographical location offer exceptional conditions for the production of great sweet white wines. The work in the vineyard is carried out in a traditional manner and with respect for the environment: all the tasks in the vineyard are done manually (pruning, thinning out, harvesting). Organic amendments are controlled, treatments are carried out with natural contact products such as sulphur flower. The vegetative cycle and natural control are favoured with grassing in...
