Cavesa le CAVE, le club des amateurs de vins exquis

Madère Boal, Single Harvest, Henriques & Henriques - 2000

Less dry than sercial and verdelho, but less rich than malvasia, bual (or boal) is a textbook wine for those who want to understand the personality of the great Madeiras. Both powerful and refined, it is above all a wine for meditation. This rare mono-millesime has a dark golden hue with greenish nuances. Developed and complex, with intense aromas of dried fruit, honey and vanilla, it has a very balanced sweetness on the palate, with complex flavours and a wonderfully long finish.

Viticulture

Once owned by the Portuguese royal house, the former Henriques & Henriques company is now owned by British John Cossart. For 53 years his father was the director and cellar master of the company and in 1978, after the death of the last Henriques who had no successor, he became the majority owner. With 15 hectares, Henriques & Henriques is the largest wine producer on Madeira Island.

Oenology

The oldest wine in the world, Madeira is usually sold without a vintage. The best qualities are aged for 10 years or more in oak barrels before being put on the market.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Drink it with a citrus dessert or on its own, as a meditation wine, perhaps accompanied by a large cigar.
