At the head of a historic family estate located on the route to Santiago de Compostela, Christophe Grandmougin is one of the great talents of the Côte Chalonnaise. His greatest white, Marissou, is already complex and richly aromatic (vanilla, toast, grapefruit). On the palate, it is both fat in texture and taut in structure, juicy and very long. A remarkable wine.

Technique

Viticulture

Planting density: 10,000 vines/ha. Plot facing south/south-east (0.7 ha). The average age of the vineyard is 40 years. Sustainable cultivation. The soils are weeded mechanically and the fertiliser is mainly composed of composted bovine manure from organic farming. Yields are controlled by early disbudding and green harvesting at the end of July. High trimming and manual leaf removal are carried out on the rising side at the end of June.

Oenology

The grapes are harvested by hand and transported in crates. The vinification remains traditional and is adapted to each vintage. The white wines are partly matured in oak barrels (50%) and they are also renewed every 3 years. Bottling is generally done between the fifteenth and twentieth month following the harvest.

The estate was acquired in 1955 by Christophe-Amédée Grandmougin, then taken over by his son Christophe in 1991. In the past, it was also a stopover for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. At the head of a heritage of old vines (average age of 40 years) cultivated with respect for the plant and the environment, he signs luminous vintages which have nothing to envy to the Burgundian stars... and this at prices which have remained very soft.
