Savennières, Clos Serteaux, Eric Morgat (magnum) - 2015

It is a winegrower's dream: to give birth to a place, to accompany a forgotten land in its metamorphosis and to humbly gather a taste, a flavour, a new song. To begin by clearing the ground, planting, then understanding and doubting. More than ten years ago, contemplating the Loire from the top of a closed garden overlooking the Pierre Bécherelle, Éric Morgat had this dream. How could he resist the call of one of the most beautiful hillsides in Savennières, painted in 1826 by William Turner? First the river which reflects the light and moderates the climate, then the steep slope and finally the south-east facing sandstone schists, each element plays its part here. Their forces combine to transcend the Chenin into an as yet unknown expression that cannot be compared to any other. A careful study of the old Napoleonic cadastre has revealed the original name: Clos Serteaux.

Certified organic cultivation, yields are on average 22Hl/Ha.

Oenology

Fermented and matured in barrels for one year, then in stoneware jars and stainless steel vats for 10 months.

Suggestions for accompaniment

Roasted turbot and fennel - Grilled lobster - Lobster roll with apples and lime.

Beware, a great idealistic winemaker, who has pushed the reflection of his viticulture, his plot of land and the wine of Savennières to its paroxysm, in order to produce not great wines of the nose, but great wines of the palate, with a crazy originality of flavour and texture, which resemble no other in the appellation and will age wonderfully. Add to this the fact that he is coached by Fabien Duperray, who has also contributed to the emergence of great winemakers such as Arnaud Ente, and you will understand that his wines have everything it takes to become cult wines.
