Un vin hors norme, d'une concentration impressionnante. Toutes néanmoins en place et c’est là le plus spectaculaire. Le grain de tanins, la vivacité de la bouche, l’éclat du fruit et la longueur sont superlatifs.

The level of glycerine sets this apart, giving the cascade of plum, currant, blackberry and black cherry fruit extra oomph, while seeming to heighten the purity at the same time. Beautiful violet, incense and juniper notes flash in the background. This is packed with iron-laced grip, but remains seamless and extremely long. I suspect this will be one of the most talked-about wines of the vintage.

Possibly the most talked about estate in the vintage, with its mildew-induced 11hl/ha yields making waves all the way back at harvest time. They made it through though, and have made an exceptional wine that will clearly be discussed and enjoyed for years to come.

It is the essence of cabernet fruit with density that is so thick that it has the texture of grape puree. Full body and melted tannins that give the wine a sense of velvet. Very soft and juicy. With air, it goes to bright, crushed black currants. Tar. Fresh tannins give it energy. I have never tasted anything like this in all my 38 years as a wine critic in Bordeaux. From tiny berries of cabernet sauvignon (53 per cent), 40 per cent merlot and seven per cent petit verdot.

«Very deep purple-black in color, the nose is a little reticent to begin, but with coaxing, it slowly emerges to show fragrant violets, underbrush, mossy bark and iron ore with exponentially growing notions of crème de cassis, Black Forest cake, plum preserves, hoisin, Christmas cake and red roses with wafts of dusty earth, Indian spices and cracked black pepper. Full-bodied, concentrated and downright powerful in the mouth, it has a solid structure of firm, wonderfully plush tannins and masses of fragrant accents, finishing very long and very spicy. By the time I finished tasting this, the nose had exploded in this fragrant bomb of fruit, earth and floral notions. This is one of those 2018 wines that has a beguiling brightness that comes from the many floral, spice and mineral accents among all that rich fruit. WOW!»

Couleur noire. Nez au caractère céleste ! Fin, frais et pourtant très mûr et même crémeux. Notes évoquant la rive droite. A l'agitation, il prend un caractère plus merveilleux, avec des notes de crème, de framboise et d'encre. Il ressemble à une essence de parfum. Ultra minutieux à l'attaque, très fondant au développement, très bien construit, très maitrisé aussi, le vin devient brillant et expressif entre le milieu et la finale. Il s'achève subtil, parfumé et à cet âge différent de tous les autres millésimes de Palmer et presque irrationnel. Pourrait voir sa note monter en fin d'élevage.

Kein Zweitwein Alter Ego. Undurchsichtiges Purpur mit schwarzer Mitte. Betörendes Parfüm nach reifen Pflaumen, Schattenmorellensaft und Cassisgelee. Im zweiten Ansatz duftige Veilchen, Wildkirschen und reife Waldhim beeren. Am Gaumen mit seidiger Textur und perfekt ausgereiften, polierten Tanninen, cremig und elegant. Im aromatischen, katapultartigen Finale eine Explosion von Heidelbeeren, Lakritze und Nougatpralinen gepaart mit Eleganz und perfekter Präzision. Ein Meisterwerk aus Margaux, dass ich bisher noch nicht erlebt habe. Die Frage wird sein, wie sich dieser Wein entwickeln wird. Dieser wird, neben Pontet-Canet, einer der am heissesten diskutierten Weine sein!

D'une couleur grenat-pourpre très profonde, il explose du verre avec des parfums atomiques de conserves de mûres, de crème de cassis et de tarte aux myrtilles, ainsi que des suggestions de roses rouges, d'essence de clou de girofle, de chocolat noir et de coffre de cèdre avec des notes de cinq épices chinoises et de menthol. La bouche corsée est d'un style décadent, offrant couche après couche de confitures de fruits noirs et d'épices exotiques, encadrées par des tanins exquis et veloutés et une fraîcheur sans faille, pour finir merveilleusement parfumé et avec une longueur épique. C'est un vin d'une beauté incroyable, un vin pour les hédonistes !
