Really classy red, offering blueberries, minerals, salt, limestone and light fresh herbs. It’s full-bodied, but so refined. Fine layers of fruit and tannins. It’s like millefeuille. The 2018 is more exuberant, but I love the elegance and structure here. Subtle and complex. 78% merlot, 20% cabernet franc and 2% cabernet sauvignon.

Couleur sombre, intense, pourpre et belle. Nez très aromatique, fruité, frais et truffé. Minutieux en entrée de bouche, très savoureux au milieu, ample, le vin évolue juteux et puissant, vers une longue finale sèveuse et savoureuse, accompagnée d'un brin d'austérité, même si le tannin est enveloppé. Très bonne longueur. De garde.

The 2019 Pavie Macquin has turned out very well indeed, unwinding in the glass with aromas of blackcurrants, cherries, burning embers, black truffle and licorice, framed by a deft framing of new oak that's more discreet than was the case even a few vintages back. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, it's deep and layered, with a strikingly vibrant core of fruit, powdery, chalky tannins and a long, penetrating, youthfully firm finish. Tasted alongside older vintages, it's clear that the Thienpont team have eased off extraction, which allows the quality of fruit that this fantastic vineyard produces to express itself all the more completely, delivering the finest Pavie Macquin since 1998.

Violet-edged floral attack, hitting you straight up with the full range of concentrated black fruits and spices. Such a great quality wine that stands out from the pack. Full of nuance, just when you think you are done it pushes another flavour into the room. The texture is controlled and precise, with slate edges that slow down its progress through the palate; just all round excellent terroir and winemaking. Tasted twice, a week apart, and its the depth to the palate that really sets it apart, and the mouth-scrapingly slow slate finish.

Intensives Bouquet, Kaffee, schwarze Brombeeren, Heidetbeeren, Zimt, Schokotrüffet. Dicht, saftig, feines Tannin, gut stützende Säure, gute Struktur, feine rotbeerige Frucht, Himbeeren, Heidelbeeren, Kräuter, zart Preiselbeeren im Finish, lang.

L'intégrité du millésime est parfaite, c'est vraisemblablement l'une des plus belles réussites de 2019. Les calcaires du plateau ont livré ici une profonde minéralité. Le jus a le souffle d'un fruit rouge, adossé à une finale dont la floralité révèle la pureté du raisin. L'agilité des cabernets francs est encore plus expressive qu'en 2018. Garde assurée.

This unfurls as seductively as a cashmere scarf, offering black tea and incense notes amidst a lush wave of dark plum, fig and blackberry reduction flavors. The subtle inlay of charcoal, tobacco and sweet bay adds length and detail through the finish. Gorgeous. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2024 through 2038.

Le 2019 de Pavie Macquin présente, avec près d'un quart de cabernets dans son assemblage, une grande force de caractère autour d'un fruit parfaitement mûr et intense sur fond de boisé fumé et de notes finement poivrées. En bouche, il associe puissance et fraîcheur autour de tanins virils mais harmonieux, puis déploie une finale somptueuse, tout en fruit. Un grand cru d'une belle assurance, bâti pour une longue garde.
