Couleur sombre, pourpre, intense et belle. Grand nez complexe de cabernet sauvignon, profond, frais, mûr et subtil. Moelleux en entrée de bouche, au toucher minutieux, riche au milieu où le corps fond, le vin gagne du goût en finale où il s’achève long, puissant, noble, complexe et très bien construit. Touche d’austérité positive dans la persistance. C’est très bon.

Beaucoup de finesse et d'expression dans ce bouquet. Il est marqué par la fraîcheur au travers de notes de baies rouges, de menthe poivrée et d'épices. A l'aération il affiche également des notes de baies noires et finalement une touche de cèdre. Au palais, le vin affiche de l'ampleur et de la fraîcheur dès l'attaque. Ses tannins sont soyeux, dotés d'un grain fin et gagnent en ampleur le long du palais. Les assises de Montrose se construisent lentement et ne semblent pas évidentes au premier contact. C'est en suivant l'évolution des tannins en fin de bouche que l'on se rend compte qu'il est doté d'une puissance ciblée et pertinente qui barre néanmoins la route aux autres éléments. Ces derniers, respectivement l'expression aromatique, parviennent à se révéler à l'aération. Cela demandera du temps. C'est un grand vin de garde.

Viel Finesse und Ausdruck findet sich gleich zum Auftakt in diesem Bouquet. Es ist von roten Beeren, Pfefferminz und Gewürzen geprägt. Das Ganze ist so etwas von frisch. Mit etwas Luft kommen auch Noten von schwarzen Beeren, und schließlich auch ein Hauch von Zedernholz hinzu. Am Gaumen ist der Wein von Anfang an füllig und frisch. Seine Tannine sind seidig, feinkörnig und gewinnen im Verlauf des Gaumens an Größe. Die Fundamente von Montrose werden langsam aufgebaut und scheinen zunächst nicht offensichtlich zu sein. Wenn sich die Tannine im Abgang entfalten, wird deutlich, dass der Wein eine fokussierte und relevante Kraft hat, die dennoch den anderen Elementen noch im Weg steht. Der aromatische Ausdruck schafft es aber, sich nach einer gewissen Belüftung zu offenbaren. Das wird aber noch einige Zeit in Anspruch nehmen. Das Warten wird sich definitiv lohnen!

Scented and perfumed on the nose with a delicate charm. Striking, full, round, juicy and crisp - this has bite and a sense of strictness in the frame that keeps things relatively narrow at this point but comes with excellent definition of elements. Great classicism with lots of freshness. Really very seductive, the black and blue fruit, graphite and touch of smoke grow and expand with richness and intensity but staying friendly at the same time thanks to the soft sweetness and juicy acidity. I just love the interplay between being serious and generous, structured but racy, intense yet precise. Such purity, and focus. Energetic and pent up, this is raring to go to show off its beauty but just being held back. Effortless, complex and compelling. I loved it a tiny bit less than the 2019 but it’s still one of the best in 2020.

Surpassing the 2019 and rivaling the 2016 as this estate's finest vintage of the last few decades, the 2020 Montrose is a monument in the making. Wafting from the glass with aromas of violets, dark berries, licorice, loamy soil, black truffle and subtle spices, it's full-bodied, deep and layered, with a seamless, elegantly muscular profile, terrific purity and energy, beautifully powdery tannins and a long, resonant finish. It checks in at 13.7% alcohol, the same as the superb 2009, but it is even deeper, more vibrant and more complex than the 2009. This will be worth a special effort to seek out and only confirms Montrose's status as one of the contemporary Médoc's leading estates and a de facto first growth.

Gorgeously rendered for the vintage, with a well-endowed core of loganberry, mulberry and cassis flavors that roll through and are laced with a cast iron hint, while tobacco, warm stone and black tea accents swirl in the background. The long, authoritative finish steadily melds the fruit with the cast iron edge. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Best from 2026 through 2040.

Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, opaker Kern, zarte Randaufhellung. Reife schwarze Herzkirschen, Brombeeren, zart nach Lakritze, feine tabakige Nuancen. Mittlerer Körper, rotbeerig, frischer Säurebogen, präsente, fordernde Tannine, mineralisch im Abgang, zart blättrig, zeigt gute Länge, braucht noch etwas Geduld.
